Iraq Moratorium Vigil

01/18/2008 2:30pm ....6pm
Chelsea Parade, In front of NFA, Norwich, CT US

Sponsored by

Come join us at a peaceful vigil with like-minded Americans who want an end to the war & a safe return of our service men & women.

Wear black, bring signs, or just stand with us in support of an end to war.

The Youth Peace Group at NFA and the War Resisters League have decided to participate in the Moratorium, but will start on Chelsea Parade after school sometime between 2:30-3 PM and they will stay until 4 PM, we will bridge the gap between 4-5 PM and continue the vigil until 6 PM. This is very exciting as we hope to see a large contingent of Americans who want this war to end and no new war to start. There should be quite the diversity of ages and backgrounds.

WE ARE GROWING!!! Politicians and fellow citizens take notice!

Reports, Updates, Comments

The Iraq Moratorium in Norwich at the Chelsea Parade from 4-6pm last night was indeed another success in reminding the locals who drove by that we are still actively engaged in a war that soldiers and civilians alike are either being killed or maimed daily.

We gathered with signs of protest for over 2 hours while many passing cars not only waved or gave us the peace sign, but also honked their horns. Many of the large tractor trailer trucks honked as well, and that is very uplifting as it is a loud affirmation of the work we are trying to do.

What is that work you might ask? Well, besides the overwhelming desire to remove our troops from Iraq and bring them home to safeguard our country (it has been said that we are now basically wide open to attack here at home due to the lack of military here), we want ALL Americans who now oppose the war to take to the streets and protest to end the war.

We want the war and its unnecessary waste of life and dollars to end. We want Iraq to be reconstructed by Iraqis so as to benefit Iraq and not allow the profit to go to big corporations. Once Iraqi's are gainfully employed you will undoubtedly see violence decrease. Avoiding "The devil making use of idle hands" comes to mind.

We want America to start to center more of its concerns on America itself and its people. Healthcare, education, employment, economy, infrastructure, air/water/land quality and in general helping all of our citizens, just to name a few.

America is only as strong as its weakest link. We have a heck of a lot of weak links right now that need addressing.
All the political rhetoric about what can be done for America is almost meaningless without ending the costly war in Iraq.

Time to stand up and go out and do whatever you can to end the war and help get America back on track.

One more soldier died on the Iraq Moratorium day. We approach 4,000 KIA in Iraq, and the anniversary of the 5th year of this war is only two months away. Time is long past to do something, so let's get going.
