Iraq Moratorium Vigil

03/21/2008 4 to 6 p.m.
Cheslea Parade, in front of NFA, Between Washington Street and NFA, Norwich, CT US

Sponsored by

It is with a heavy heart full of sorrow that we commemorate the 5th year of our illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. Please come and join us as we peacefully vigil with like-minded Americans who want an end to the war and a safe return of our service men and women. Wear black, bring signs, or just stand with us in support of an end to war.

We continue to hope to see a large contingent of Americans who want this war to end and no new war to start. There should be quite the diversity of ages and backgrounds, come stand for a minute or however long you can. WE ARE GROWING!!! AND WE AREN”T GOING AWAY UNTIL THE WAR IS ENDED, AND OUR SOLDIERS ARE HOME. Politicians and fellow citizens take notice!

Reports, Updates, Comments

On March 19, 2008 we joined with the NFA (Norwich Free Academy) Youth Peace Student Group for their Iraq Vigil. They held it from 2 to4 p.m. and made sure to hold signs reminding folks of the fifth anniversary of the war and to Support the troops, bring them home! It was an exuberant event as these young people add a lot of energy to a vigil so it was a complete success. There were even school buses honking their horns!

Today we stood vigil as part of our Iraq Moratorium and many of those same students came and joined us. They did not have school today as it is a holiday, but made the effort and time to join us. We had over 20 people there at different points, and we spread out on the green to become as visible as possible to the traffic flowing by. It was very windy which made it cold to stand, but we are now in the sixth year of this wretched war and more Americans young and old need to stand up and speak out to end the war.

We had a beautiful spring day to vigil on with hopes that more citizens would turn out. We ended up with 12 peaceful Americans standing up for peace. Many passing motorists honked, waved and gave us the peace sign. There were very few folks who acted negatively. We will keep on keeping on trying to get our fellow citizens to connect the dots and see that the hope for America lies in our withdrawing from Iraq.
