Iraq Moratorium: Cornwall Edition

04/18/2008 6 PM
Cornwall Town Hall, , Cornwall, CT US

Sponsored by

For last month's Iraq Moratorium we wrote to our elected officials, calling on them to end the war. For Moratorium Day #8, an elected official is coming to speak to us!

State Senator Andrew Roraback (R) will be speaking on the refugee crisis resulting from the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Senator Roraback recently returned from a study trip to the Middle East, where he held meetings with Iraqi refugees in Jordan.

Reports, Updates, Comments

For Moratorium Day #8, our area's State Senator, Andrew Roraback agreed to come and talk about the Iraqi refugee crisis. He drew about 30 people to Cornwall's Town Hall. He admits to being a locally-focused guy, which is true: Andy gets votes from Dems as well as his fellow Republicans, because he is always responsive to individuals in the area.

His recent study trip to the Middle East seems to have opened his eyes to what is really going on. He was amazed at how tuned in people there were to our election process. He felt they knew more about our government than most Americans...which they should because it's life and death for them.

At the end of the program, we had people sign Iraq Moratorium 4000+ postcards to bombard Representative Chris Murphy and our Senators with. A local newspaper reporter attended her first Moratorium. We also handed out fliers for our Third Friday event, May 16, which we are very excited about-- Michael Hoffman one of the founders of Iraq Veterans Against the War will be speaking.
