| NO CHARGES FOR BLACKWATER IN KILLING SPREE Blackwater Worldwide, the security contractor blamed by an angry Iraqi government for the shooting deaths of 17 civilians, is not expected to face criminal charges — all but ensuring the company will keep its multimillion-dollar contract to protect U.S. diplomats.
| IRAQI WIDOWS GROW MORE NUMEROUS, DESPERATE Violence in this country creates more widows by the day, and some members of parliament and women's advocates warn of a growing class of poor, single mothers unable to raise Iraq's next generation. They say the situation has been made worse by U.S.-backed constitutional changes that allow each religious sect to decide its own rules on marriage, divorce, inheritance and child custody.
| IRAQI WOMEN HARASSED IN GREEN ZONE The middle-aged cleaner told The Times that a British contractor with KBR, the company hired to maintain the embassy’s premises, offered to double her daily pay if she would stay the night with him. When she refused, she said, her pay was cut and she was later dismissed.

Give a Buck!!
In keeping with the locally-based, bottom-up spirit of the Iraq Moratorium, will you please consider giving one dollar every month to keep the Moratorium growing? One buck! You can hand it to the organizers of local events, mail it to us or donate online. Month by month, this Moratorium is expanding. With more resources, it can grow faster. Every dollar goes directly into organizing. Will you help us with this vital work? Larger donations are of course welcome, but the bottom line is we are counting on your dollar. Please
